According to the Florida Department of Health:

Florida’s licensed massage therapists, often referred to as LMTS, have met specific licensure requirements to ensure their ability to practice safely. Massage therapists have completed specialized training in anatomy, physiology, hydrotherapy, and the basic types of massage. They have also passed a national examination that tests their massage therapy knowledge and skills.

  Medical Quality Assurance

The Florida Department of health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) is responsible for regulating all health care practitioners in Florida. MQA ensures that skillfully trained health care personnel are caring for the people of Florida. All licensed health care professionals in Florida are required to continue their education and remain current in their profession.

It is illegal to practice massage therapy or to provide any medical or health care services to Florida residents and visitors without a valid, active license. The Department of Health has made the vigorous enforcement of licensure regulation one of its priorities.

You should always make sure that you have a qualified therapist. Call the Department’s toll-free unlicensed activity hotline at: 1-877-425-8852.
